Learning Disabilities:

Learning disabilities cover a wide spectrum of problems so it is best to describe your child. Some people think it is caused by too much sugar or other food additives. Some think it is caused by various types of brain damage such as lack of oxygen at birth or from accidents. Whatever the cause we have a proven record of being able to help even the most difficult of cases.

If you believe in Ritalin please don't come to us. Our goal is to effect cures without drugs and it works regardless of what other experts may say. With our system you can see results right away, usually in less than five to fifteen days and sometimes in a matter of hours. The Tooties system is very powerful. Be sure to read some of our case histories.

Hyperactivity:

It's normal for puppies, other animals and children to be active. Rather than suppressing that energy with Ritalin or other drugs we feel it is better to teach the puppy or child when to restrain themselves and when to feel free to frolic around. All animals develop best when allowed to move and this includes children. Children were not designed to sit at a desk and concentrate on reading or math, etc. What we do is burn up that energy quickly with Tootie games that are lots of fun and include reading and math, etc. especially thinking at the same time. We teach self-control so the parent or teacher doesn't have to control the child. Parents are delighted at how quickly we can solve this problem. Be sure to read the case of Malin in Sweden.

ADS/ADDs:

This stands for Attention Deficit Syndrome which in later years was called a disease in order to get insurance companies to pay for treatment and drugs. Thus the name was changed to ADD or Attention Deficit Disease. We don't believe it is a disease and even if it is we can cure almost any case very quickly despite what other experts may say. The secret is to know "how" and that is our area of expertise.

These children are highly distractible and can't seem to focus on anything more than a few minutes so are very difficult to teach. Once we teach them to concentrate and increase their attention span dramatically they are fun to teach. Unfortunately many universities that teach elementary education teachers pass on the false notion that it is normal for young children to have attention spans of only a few minutes. We know why their attention spans are so short but prefer to keep the secret and use it to improve our students. Imagine taking almost any one of those "impossible cases" and increasing their attention span to several hours. It's easy for us. When we say "easy" we mean that we know how to do it even tho it is very hard work.

Dyslexia:

Dyslexia shows up as a variety of symptoms such as letter and number reversals and an inability to read or learn well. Dr. Jerry Getman, OD Phd. wrote a book on how to improve such students. He classifies them as bright in everything except school. Dr. Hanson agrees with Dr. Getman in that almost all of the cases can be cured or at least substantially improved at any age.

Some so called experts think that it is impossible to cure dyslexia or learning disabilities so naturally they don't get good results. The same applies to people who think dyslexia, etc. is genetic because they have it, their father had it and so do their kids. This is a defeatist attitude and is unlikely to produce a cure which we think is entirely possible because we have done it with the most impossible of cases. Read some of the case histories.

ADHD

This stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disease which we don't think is a disease at all and easily curable with our QET methods (Quick Effective Therapy). See ADDs above. When doctors can't seem to help there is a tendency to call the problem a disease which is better for insurance purposes and lets the doctor off the hook when he says it is incurable.

Brain Damage

Brain damage can be real such as in accidents or lack of oxygen at birth or can be imagined when doctors can't seem to help someone. Read No. 9 in "Cases" about a girl of 19 in Sweden who was diagnosed as brain damaged at age 10 and driving her mother crazy. Her mother is an accomplished teacher of kids with problems but no one was able to cure her daughter until we came along. It took us about three weeks to solve the problems and we could find no evidence of brain damage. She turned out to be absolutely brilliant and delightful and went on to medical school.

When the brain damage is actual we have developed techniques using trial and error to open up new neural pathways to overcome the damage as much as possible. It is very hard work but the results can be very gratifying. We have many such cases. Be sure to read No. 11, 12, 14, 16, and 18 among others. No matter how hopeless the case may seem there is always the chance we can make some improvements. We hardly ever give up. On the other hand we will be honest with you if we think the case is really hopeless. People tend to come to us after they have tried every thing else.

Reading Problems

Reading problems have many different causes and can result in severe learning problems and even drop outs. Even the brightest kids can have reading problems. Dr. Hanson used to love to read adventure books when he was in elementary school even tho he was very slow. Seventh grade turned him off as he had to read uninteresting books such as American history or Shakespeare. Imagine being forced to read books you don't like and then having to do a book report. This is a problem caused by teachers and the universities who taught them. Parents are at their mercy unless they take action. Visit almost any university and nearby you will find a place that sells comic books because otherwise the students wouldn't read at all. Look at how many graduate from college and can barely read. Dr. Hanson was embarrassed at how slow he was in reading and had to stay studying while other kids were out having at good time at the university. So he decided to learn speed reading and went on to develop his own system which is now the best in the world for teaching professionals who must understand what they read.

The first step in solving a reading problem should be to have a vision exam by a qualified behavioral optometrist. See section on Vision. The next step would be to hear the student read out loud a relatively simple book of his or her choosing. Then see how well they know the alphabet. The Tooties approach to many of these problems is to do it indirectly. Thus if a child comes in with reading problems we teach him math or science and vice versa. We try to pick something they like and make it much better while at the same time indirectly improve the problem they came in for. Done skillfully it produces amazing and quick results.

If we were to focus on reading because that was their problem they would tend to be sensitive on that issue. So we would pick something they like and are good at but do it in such a way as to involve reading. When students have a math problem we usually do experiments in electronics which are lots of fun and soon the math comes into play. Remember always that one of the Tooties secrets is not what you do but how you do it and that usually requires lots of skill and experience.

In summary, almost any reading problem can be solved at any age with the Tooties system. Come to us and solve the problem quickly or try everybody else first.

Failure to Talk

Failure to talk among young developing children is fairly common and relatively easy to solve. When we say easy that means we know what to do even tho it may involve lots of hard work. Of course check with a medical doctor to be sure the voice box is normal. Does the child make any sounds? We have many cases considered hopeless by many experts and we were able to solve the problem in just a few days or sometimes even hours. Read the case history of Alex in Vienna, Austria as well as the case of a man of 27 who had been in an institution for 20 years.

Parenting

Parenting is a very difficult skill because every child is different and none come with an owner's manual. Even worse, by the time you learn how to control a three year old they are now four and you have to start all over. Dr. Hanson likes to take young mothers to visit a mother dog with puppies. Imagine, the dog has eight at a time and all are under control. The dog has no playpen or crib, yet they have been given limits which they do not exceed. The mother dog gives them lots of freedom to develop but still has all of them under control. Human mothers usually only have one at a time and are not nearly as calm as the mother dog. Why don't we learn more from animals. Dr. Hanson grew up in the jungle observing many animals, including monkeys and learned a lot about parenting.

There are some good books out there but even the good ones have parts you should not follow. There are also lots of terrible books so you need to learn to discriminate. Many are written by academics who spout off their theories and know relatively little about real children. Among the worse places to get advice is from your pediatrician. Unfortunately many mothers do exactly that. His specialty is diseases so he know hardly anything about normal healthy children even if he has some of his own. Naturally he is not about to admit he knows almost nothing about healthy children. Dr. Hanson believes the best person to ask is a teacher who has had several of her own children and even there you need to ask several and compare.

Psychologists & Psychiatrists

The field of psychology is very useful but the very process of educating a psychologist also contaminates him or her with current beliefs and practices.

Our QET (Quick Effective Therapy) techniques take all these factors into consideration. In addition, we make a visit to the person's home to meet their family, friends and pets to see what their environment is really like and not just what they say. We aren't any smarter than other professionals. We just take a different approach, have lots of experience and skills the others don't have and usually get fantastic results quickly. Even as nice as you might be we don't want to be part of your life forever. Our goal is to make you independent as soon as possible. We have many others who need and want help.

If you wish, fill out the questionaire and write a couple of pages about yourself or your child and send to us. Please include pictures. Snail mail is fine but include your e-mail so we can respond quickly and follow with snail mail of literature related to your interest.
